Trade the crowds for a front row seat on the water.Join SUP Pups and What’s SUP San Diego for our annual Big Bay Boom Fireworks Paddle on July 4th. Experience Southern California's largest fireworks display from the unique perspective of a paddle board in San Diego Bay.
This guided nighttime paddle is designed for experienced paddlers who want to celebrate Independence Day in a truly unforgettable way. As the sun sets, we'll light up our boards and paddle into the bay to watch the fireworks from the water before returning for a beach bonfire with snacks and refreshments.
Please note that this is a human-only event. No dogs are permitted due to the nighttime conditions, fireworks, and increased boat traffic.
Participants must be 18 years or older if by them selves. If under 18 must have adult supervision and have prior paddle boarding experience. This event is not suitable for beginners.
Check In | 8:20 PM
- Meet behind the Courtyard Marriott Hotel at the West Coast Paddle Sports tent. Check in, get fitted with your equipment, and receive your headlamp, board lights, and glow accessories.
Safety Briefing & Equipment Setup | 8:30 PM
- Our instructors will review nighttime paddling procedures, safety guidelines, navigation lights, and the route to the viewing area.
Launch & Guided Paddle | 8:45 PM
- Depart as a group and enjoy a short paddle through the calm waters of Liberty Station into San Diego Bay. The paddle to our viewing location takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
Big Bay Boom Fireworks Show | 9:15 PM
- Enjoy a front row seat on the water for San Diego's iconic Big Bay Boom Fireworks Show, the largest fireworks display in Southern California.
Return Paddle | Approximately 9:35 PM
- After the fireworks conclude, paddle back to Liberty Station with guidance from our instructors.
Bonfire & Social Gathering | Approximately 9:45 PM
- Relax around a bonfire and enjoy snacks and refreshments while sharing stories from an unforgettable evening on the water and wait out traffic!
