Celebrate the birth of the nation directly at its source by attending the Wawa Welcome America Festival 2026 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Widely recognized as the largest and longest Independence Day celebration in the country, this massive citywide festival is expanded to an unprecedented 16-day run from June 19 through July 4, 2026, to honor 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The festival intentionally bridges the historic gap between Juneteenth and the Fourth of July, weaving together a comprehensive, inclusive story of American freedom and liberty across dozens of completely free community programs.
Festivities, Free Museum Days, and Gospel Concerts
Throughout the 16-day celebration, Philadelphia residents and visitors can experience a rich tapestry of free events. A cornerstone of the festival is the Free Museum Days series, unlocking completely free public access to premier cultural hubs like the Penn Museum, where families can explore 10,000 years of human history, handle artifact replicas, and tour the newly opened Native North America Gallery from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Outdoor celebrations include the Philly Fair 250 in the Centennial District from June 20 to 22, featuring interactive spaces curated by the Philadelphia Zoo, 13 food trucks representing the original 13 colonies, and a giant trapeze. Musical showcases are scattered across the schedule, including the soulful Gospel on Independence at Independence National Historical Park on Sunday, June 28, featuring a supersized choir of over 250 local voices headlined by 20-time Grammy icon Kirk Franklin.
Headlining Concerts and Fireworks Schedule
The festival features multiple world-class, free concert events. On July 3, an evening orchestral concert emceed by RuPaul's Drag Race star Trixie Mattel features regional LGBTQ+ choirs leading up to a headlining performance by entertainment icon Queen Latifah. On Saturday, July 4, the official One Philly Unity Concert for America takes over Independence National Historical Park from 5:00 PM to midnight. Emceed by comedy legend Wanda Sykes, the star-studded concert features live sets from Christina Aguilera, Jill Scott, Jordan Davis, The Roots, Kathy Sledge, and a major reunion performance by Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff. The entire 16-day festival is bookended by a spectacular series of six separate nights of fireworks, culminating in a massive July 4th pyrotechnic display over the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art.
