About this Event
A world premiere unlike anything else in New York this summer! Giant wearable sculptures, live music, audience participation, and an underwater revolution come together in acclaimed musician, visual artist, and children's entertainer Phoebe Legere's dazzling new family musical, The Fish Who Saved New York, premiering at the Waterfront Museum.
Inspired by the real animals and history of New York Harbor, this immersive underwater adventure features an all-original score, a cast of ten exceptional actors and musicians, the magical musical saw artistry of Pinky Weitzman, and enormous wearable sculptures designed and created by Phoebe Legere herself. Blending theater, music, and visual art on an epic scale, the production celebrates creativity, community, and the resilient spirit of New York.
Children will hear a little English, a little Spanish, and a lot of music, laughter, and adventure as George Washington Sturgeon, Alexander Hamilton Starfish, and the Marquis de Seahorse lead a colorful underwater revolution to protect their beloved harbor—filled with singing fish, marching seahorses, towering sea creatures, giant waves, and surprising villains.
Before the performance, children are invited to a free drawing workshop with Phoebe Legere, where they will learn to draw the wonderful creatures of New York Harbor—starfish, seahorses, herons, and sturgeon. Families are encouraged to explore the harbor and park before the show. As part of Phoebe Legere's annual birthday celebration (she was born on July 4), every child receives a special gift bag.
