Join VFW Post 969 and Auxiliary 969 on July 4, 2026, for a family-friendly America 250 community block party honoring the families behind the uniform.
This event is for veterans, service members, military families, veteran families, caregivers, surviving families, and neighbors who support those who serve. We want this day to feel welcoming, patriotic, and community-centered, with space to honor service, remember loved ones, and enjoy time together.

📜 Declaration of Independence read by 8 Post members at 11:15
🧁 250 cupcakes I'm baking myself, one for every year of America
🍉 Watermelon eating contest
🎒 Patriotic goody bags for every kid
🎮 Open field games — Giant Jenga, sack race, 3-legged race, cornhole, bocce, horseshoes, water balloon toss
📦 Time Capsule sealed at 5:00 PM, to open July 4, 2076
🎤 Karaoke 7–9 PM with my dad, Cmdr. Terry Hicks
🎺 Live Taps at 9:05 PM

🎆 Veterans' aerial finale at 10:00 PM, run by Post 969
This event began with a family memory of Sylvia Hicks baking a red, white, and blue Bicentennial cake in 1976. For America 250, that same spirit becomes a bigger community table at VFW Post 969, honoring the families who serve, support, remember, and sacrifice.
Bring a flag. Pin a ribbon to the Tribute Wall with a name you love. Tell us a Sylvia story. Eat a cupcake. Light Fireworks with us!
