Celebrate July 4 meaningfully! Explore the realities and timeline of freedoms for Americans of color through the history of ice cream.About this Event
Join BIPOC bicycle advocate and equity educator, The Brown Bike Girl, for an insightful, scenic, and delicious ride on July 4th.
The Juneteenth Ice Cream Tour will visit 3 inclusive and POC owned Brooklyn ice cream shops in Brooklyn to consume a sampling of cultural flavors that underscore the lived realities of how legally emanicipated Black Americans would experience "freedom" in the USA. Particular in the years surrounding landmark freedom declarations such the Declaration of Indepednece, the passing of both 13th Amerndment that ended slavery, and the 1964 end segregation.
All persons are welcome and encouraged to join in having a mindful holiday.
Please know that nuts and dairy will present in some of the samples.
ABOUT THE RIDE
- Appx. 14 miles, casual family friendly pace (appx 10mph) covering Downtown & Central Brooklyn Neighborhood
- Recommended for those who have some street riding experience
- Helmets are required for riders of all ages.
- Children: Youth under 14 are welcome on street-legal bikes attachments such as commercial child seats and trailers. No gliders, training wheels, or new riders will be welcome.
- The Brown Bike Girl reserves the right to assess, admit, or dismiss any rider (child or adult) on the basis of demonstrated ability to operate safely and/or keep pace at any point in the ride.

TAKE THE TRAIN TO START?
Brooklyn Borough Hall/ Downtown Farmers Market area is accessible by 2/3/4/5/R trains to Borough Hall. A/C to Hoyt Schermerhorn and Q to Dekalb and A/C/F to Jay are nearby. Please check the train holiday and maintenance schedule when planning your trip!
It is recommended that bikes load at the front or rear cars of MTA trains.
This is within the Citi Bike-able service area.
REFUND POLICY
Refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled by the organizer. We will only cancel for inclement or dangerous riding conditions such as storms, flood, or high wind warnings.
