They of course honed their trade not because of commercial interest more as a service to their communities of faith and celebration of the wonders around them. Water of course was a little more dangerous to drink back then so Beer & Cider helped them to hydrate....

Learning of Belgian Beer styles the key words are usually on the label Singles Dubbels Tripels and Quads and each is an escalation of the malt committed to the fermentation. Richer ageable and at their best reserved only to be shared by the Abbot themselves.
