This Independence Day Weekend, join the Radio Association of Western New York aboard the historic USS Little Rock at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park as we operate special event station W2D — celebrating 250 years of independence and the exciting arrival of the giant Mama Duck and her son Timmy at nearby Canalside.
The world’s largest rubber duck and her duckling will be visiting Buffalo’s waterfront just steps from the Naval Park, creating a unique backdrop for this special event operation. Be sure to visit with us and learn about amateur radio on your tour of the ships. Last ticket to access the ships is sold at 4 PM.
Amateur radio operators should look for W2D on the air through the holiday weekend (Friday-Sunday, 1400-2000 UTC) as we combine ham radio and naval history with a little duck-themed fun for this memorable on-the-air event! We’ll spot our activity to pota.app as W2D at US-6532 Erie Canalway.
