In this dynamic talk, American science communicator Kate the Chemist explores the chemistry, engineering, and history behind one of the world’s most spectacular traditions.
From their origins in ancient China to their role in modern Independence Day celebrations, discover how fireworks evolved from accidental explosions into carefully designed works of art.
Along the way, enjoy exciting fire demonstrations and colorful chemical reactions that reveal how different metals create vivid colors, why blue fireworks are so difficult to produce, and how scientists choreograph explosions to light up the sky.

This is a theatre event for children and adults to enjoy together. We recommend our family talks for children aged 7–13, though they can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
