Roy Davis Jr. is, in no uncertain terms, a legendary DJ and producer from Chicago who has played his part in defining electronic music. His hybrid sound has graced everything from underground imprints to major league labels, including the likes of Defected, Strictly Rhythm, King Street Sounds, XL Recordings and Universal, Sony and Warner Brothers. Of course, you can’t present Roy Davis Jr. without mentioning his classic penned with Peven Everett, “Gabriel” — credited by some with kick-starting the UK garage scene, but certifiably a house anthem — or “Watch Them Come” as Men of the Nile. He’s worked with highly influential and iconic staples of the house music world, as an A&R scout for the seminal Strictly Rhythm label and as another member of the pioneering acid house group Phuture. As a DJ, he’s commanded dance floors across the world at clubs like Smart Bar in Chicago, Yellow in Japan and fabric in London, as well as massive festivals such as Cream Fields and Coachella.
Chicago’s very own, Ellery Cowles is fully back in action and in better form than ever — with his unique approach to production and DJing. He’s never been one to conform to boundaries or rules with music genres and labels crossing all of the proverbial lines drawn between deep house, acid, and proper techno with a mastery of his own hybrid strain of Chicago acid and Detroit techno. In his words, “I just make tracks.” Forged from the raw, sweat-drenched basements of Chicago in the mid 80s and discovered by the Chicago Bad Boys at an early age, he'd make his commercial debut in '89 alongside Lil’ Louis at the Toy Box. This would lead to collective recognition by his peers and subsequently sharing the booth with other heavyweights like Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, Steve Poindexter, DJ Skull, Felix Da Housecat, and Terry Hunter. His production credits include released on seminal labels like DJAX and Cajual, with his most recent on Roy Davis Jr.'s label, Undaground Therapy Muzik, featuring the voice of house music himself, Robert Owens.
