Details

All are invited to the First Fridays Summer Concert series at St. Luke's! Concerts are free, with the opportunity for a free-will offering to support Arts at St. Luke's future programming.
Second in this summer's series is organist, Stephen Williams performing Songs of America.
There will be a few 'fireworks' on the program with Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, variations on The Star-Spangled Banner by early 19th century composer Dudley Buck, variations on the National Hymn by Winston-Salem's Margaret Sandresky, and variations on 'America' by early 20th century composer Charles Ives. English composer James Hewitt immigrated to America in 1792 and we will hear his 'July 4th - A Grand Military Sonata' that brilliantly captures the festive scene of the 1776 event. Samuel Barber's 'Adagio for Strings' will allow a moment for reflection and remembrance for those who have died in the line of duty, their families and loved ones. The program will close with two Sousa marches, The Liberty Bell, and The Stars and Stripes Forever for which Stephen will be joined by Caroline Stephenson in the organ duet.
Stephen Williams is Director of Music Ministry and Organist at St. Luke's. Stephen studied organ performance, choral conducting, and church music at Brevard College, Westminster Choir College of Rider University, The Juilliard School, and West Chester University. Before coming to St. Luke’s in July of 2022, he was Canon Precentor for Music and Fine Arts at Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for eight years, and Artist in Residence at Moravian University. He had previously served as Director of Music and Organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church in downtown Allentown PA for twenty-six years and was concurrently Director of Chapel Music and College Organist at Muhlenberg College.
