Starting this Saturday, July 4th, we'll be at the crosswalk in front of the market every week from 8am to 12pm. Volunteers in hi-vis vests will hold signs and help slow traffic so people can cross safely at that intersection. It gets busy on market mornings, and it's a good place to make walking a little safer.
Right next to the crosswalk we'll have a table and an awning.
That's where the Strong Towns Local Conversation is happening. We've been talking about Strong Towns ideas here in Sioux Falls since 2018, and now we're bringing that conversation to the market every Saturday. Pull up a chair and talk with us about how our streets and intersections get designed, what our zoning rules mean for the kind of town we end up with, and what on-the-ground actions we can take in our own neighborhoods.
You don't have to choose between volunteering and chatting. Take a shift on the crosswalk, then sub out and sit at the table for a while. We want people moving back and forth between both.
We're getting more organized this year. The plan is to show up every Saturday and build something steady, while connecting more with the national Strong Towns movement. If any of this has been on your mind, come find us.
Other community groups are welcome at the table too. If your organization wants to be part of the conversation or work together on something, reach out and let us know.
