Join the African American Heritage Project of Blair County, Pennsylvania Military Museum, Blair County Historical Society, Blair County NAACP, and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 21, at 1PM for Blair County's 2nd Annual Juneteenth Jubilee Commemoration. History, scripture, prayers, and musical performances will be presented to all in attendance. A picnic will occur afterwards from 4PM-7PM at Prospect Park. Dr. Jared Frederick will be conducting Civil War Altoona Walking Tours at both 5PM and 8PM, starting at Levity Brewing Company.Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, commemorates the emancipation of slaves in America. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on June 19, 1865, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.
