Good afternoon my fellow WellCare employees, I am super excited to invite each one of you to my hometown 54th annual Lumbee Homecoming Event. I have attached a brief history about Lumbee Homecoming, a calendar of events, and a link that you can access to learn more about what all happens at Lumbee Homecoming.

Lumbee Homecoming officially started in 1968, the year after Cheryl Ransom (Locklear) was crowed the first Miss Lumbee. It has grown since that initial beauty pageant into one of the largest events held in Southeastern North Carolina. The first Miss Lumbee pageant was held in September of 1967, around the Recreation Center Swimming Pool; now known as the North Carolina Indian Cultural Center. The late R&B music legend Percy Sledge served as a judge for the first pageant. Now, there are four additional pageants ranging from a Little Miss to a Senior Ms. Pageant. The week-long celebration features a parade, outdoor gospel music concert, food and craft vendors, athletic events, a car show, and dozens of other events, Lumbee Tribe, UNC-Pembroke, Town of Pembroke and others have added programs and events to coincide with Lumbee Homecoming, the Kiwanis of Pembroke sponsor the annual 5K run and the Lumbee Warriors Association host the Veterans Military Ball each year. Lumbee Indians from all across the United States look forward to returning home during the fourth of July Lumbee Homecoming festivities year after year.

Thursday, July 6th, 2023 ( 1 volunteer needed from 1:00-4:00pm & 1 volunteer needed from 4:00pm-7:00pm to manage the informationTable)

Friday, July 7th ( 1 volunteer needed from 11:00am-3:00pm & 2 volunteers needed from 3:00pm-7:00pm to manage the information Table)

Saturday, July 8th, (1 volunteer needed from 8:00am-12:00pm, 2 volunteers needed from 12:00pm-4:00pm & 2 volunteers needed from 4:00pm-7:00pm to manage the information table)

Saturday, July 8th @ 6:30 am WellCare will be

• Volunteers are invited to attend Lumbee Homecoming at their own leisure. Prior to volunteering or after completing their volunteered time slot.

• Please bring your own folding chair.

• Wear comfortable shoes

• Dress to stay cool (I definitely recommend shorts & dri-fit shirt)

• Come hungry

• Fireworks are on Saturday, July 8, 2023 @ 9:30pm (Really awesome fireworks show. I super-highly recommend it)

• Water, Gatorade & snacks will be on-site for all WellCare volunteers.

Finally, parking for the tabling event will be on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP). The address can be a little tricky, but the subway store is right across the street from where everyone will be parking.
